One of the Guys, written for Mellissa Hughes, selected as a winning song in operamission‘s New Cabaret composition competition. Ms. Hughes will be premiering the song in the near future. Two songs from Dear Lieder were performed in the New Cabaret concert at the National Opera Center in New York City on 10th January, 2013. Sung by Heather Engebretson, accompanied by Jennifer Peterson.

Any Little Thing (für Sechs) will be performed by Nextet in Spring 2013, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. 

Presented excerpts of Joy. Even Against Night. and Any Little Thing (für Sechs) as part of Music and/as Process at the University of Surrey. (8th December, 2012)

Justin is very excited to be onboard as the composer for the animated short, Truffle Fallout. The story is inspired by actual real-world phenomena, mixed with just that necessary touch of something extra.

Justin organized and presented a colloquium on children and war at the University of Texas at Austin. The event featured talks from Dr. Catharine H. Echols, Dr. Robert Jensen, R. Joseph Parrott, and Jermaine Thibodeaux. It concluded with the premiere if Justin’s dissertation composition, …That the Children May Learn. (April 29, 2012)

City Limits Brass Quintet performed Urbs sine finibus urbium during their Spring Recital on April 9, 2012 at 4:30 PM, Jessen Auditorium.

City Limits Brass Quintet performed Urbs sine finibus urbium as part of the final UT-CLUTCH concert of the academic year. April 2, 2012 at 7:30 PM, Recital Studio.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2012 So Percussion read ElectricSkinsMetallicMenWoodenWarping, a percussion trio with electronics written for line upon line percussion,  at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music.

Felleda work for solo oboe, was selected among 50 submissions for the University of South Dakota’s 60/60 Recital. The piece was premiered by Heidi Farrell on January 27, 2012 in the John A. Day Gallery of the University of South Dakota.

The piece was written in response to these paintings. And it was written in one hour in accordance with these rules.

Joy. Even Against Night. was nominated for the 2010-2011 Austin Critics’ Table Award for Original Composition/Score. This is a testament to the fantastic performers, and it was, indeed, an honor just to be nominated.
